The Welsh Sheepdog , in Welsh Ci Defaid Cymreig (pronounced / kiː dɛvaɪd kəmˈrɛɨɡ / ) is a British dog breed that is not recognized by the FCI .
Origin and history
Every country, or rather every landscape, has long-established working dogs, including herding dogs. The Welsh Sheepdog is one such herding dog from Wales . The breed is not recognized by any breed association; it is a working dog that is bred according to purely functional criteria, i.e. according to work performance as a herding dog. Welsh Sheepdogs are therefore less suitable as family dogs.
description
In appearance it corresponds roughly to a short-haired collie , probably not that big, more stocky. It grows up to 45 cm and weighs 16 kg. The fur is smooth, long and weatherproof, whereby all colors are permitted: mostly black and tan, three-colored, pure black or black with a white blaze, white collar, white chest and white underside.
Health
The Welsh Sheepdog does not seem to be a carrier of the MDR1 defect and thus the multidrug sensitivity ; a direct descent of the breed from Collies is therefore unlikely, despite their appearance.
