Weltempfänger litprom best list

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Weltempfänger litprom best list is a list of the best for literary translation , which has been published four times a year since 2008.

Procedure

A jury of literary critics , writers and cultural journalists nominated seven titles: These are new publications of fiction from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Arab world that have been translated into German. The jury presents its selection in short texts and publishes it as a poster, brochure and online on the Litprom e. V. The jury consists of Ilija Trojanow as chairman, Katharina Borchardt (literary editor), Anita Djafari (director of Litprom), Andreas Fanizadeh (head of the culture department at taz ), Claudia Kramatschek (literary critic), Jörg Plath (literary editor at Deutschlandfunk Kultur), Ruthard Stäblein (literary critic), Thomas Wörtche and Ulrich Noller (author and journalist).

Purpose and dissemination

The aim of this list of the best is to make known outstanding literary voices that are still to be discovered in German-speaking countries. In addition, a novel for translation into German is recommended on every Weltempfänger list. The list is distributed to the book trade as a supplement to the Börsenblatt , and also to libraries, cultural institutions and literary houses in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

An overview of all authors selected so far can be found on the Litprom e. V., as well as an archive of all Weltempfänger leaderboards as PDF documents.

The Weltempfänger-Bestliste is an initiative of Litprom e. V. (formerly “Society for the Promotion of Literature from Africa, Asia and Latin America”). It was inspired by the writer Ilija Trojanow, who is a long-time member of the non-profit literature association and chairman of the jury.

The event "Weltempfang"

At the same time as the publication of the best list in autumn, the Frankfurt Book Fair is holding an event called “Weltempfang”, a joint project with the German Foreign Office . Panel discussions, talks and readings with international authors and translators take place here.
