World Audiovisual Heritage Day

The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage ( English World Day for Audiovisual Heritage ) on October 27 was the 25th anniversary of "moving recommendation for the protection and preservation of images" of the 2005 UNESCO proclaimed. This World Day is intended to raise awareness of the fact that mankind has created a great audiovisual legacy of sound recordings , films and videos over the past 100 years , which should be preserved as historical documents. Audiovisual media are on different analog and digitalCarriers saved. These are threatened with decay to varying degrees. For example, there is no complete version of the important silent film Metropolis today . UNESCO is committed to preserving these media as part of the world cultural heritage .

Since 2007, the day has been officially celebrated in Germany on October 27th. The Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin is in charge of the World Day in Germany.

In Switzerland , on the occasion of World Audiovisual Day, numerous activities, guided tours, lectures and exhibitions take place at various venues, including the Bern Kinemathek and the Swiss National Sound Archives in Lugano in 2019 .
