Tehosekoitin (Finnish: Mixer ) was a Finnish rock band that was formed in Lahti in 1991 and lasted until 2004.
Band history
In the beginning the band had punk influences in their music, but they later became a major Finnish rock band. The breakthrough of the band was the song C'mon baby yeah! . Other popular songs include a. Pyydä kills taivaalta (Please the stars from heaven), Asfaltti polttaa (The asphalt is burning), Pillitä, Elli, pillitä (Howl, Elli, howl) and Maailma on sun (The world is yours). The band's lyrics tell of love and the carefree rock lifestyle.
Like many other bands, Tehosekoitin rehearsed in undemanding rehearsal rooms at the beginning of their careers. The composition of the band was clear from the start: Otto Grundström (vocals), Ari Tiaien (guitar), Hannu Kilkki (bass) and Matti Mikkola (drums). Grundström was the singer and figurehead of the band until they broke up.
From 1992 to 1993 Tehosekoitin had a good reputation in the small Finnish punk scene. Because the big record labels did not offer the band a record deal, guitarist Arska founded his own record label, Levy-yhtiö . Other bands at Levy-yhtiö included Apulanta and Punaiset Messiaat .
The first album Rock´n´Roll was released in 1994. Matti Mikkola composed the songs and singer Otto Grundström wrote the lyrics. In 1997 the second album Köyhät syntiset was released and was very successful. The single C'mon Baby Yeah became number one in the Finnish charts.
Dissolution of the band
Since spring 2001 the guitarist Ari Tiainen no longer plays in the band, but became its manager. The band stopped playing in 2004, the last concert took place on August 1st at the Ankkarock Music Festival in the city of Vantaa . After the band's time, Otto Grundström wrote a collection of poems Tähtiotsa (Star's Forehead), which was published in 2005 by the Helsinki publisher Johnny Kniga. He also studied Latin, religious studies and art history at the University of Helsinki . In the summer of 2009, Tehosekoitin made another small tour, which was not a comeback, but just a farewell tour.
