Ankkarock

Ankkarock ( Eng . Duck rock ) is a Finnish rock and metal festival that traditionally takes place every year on the first weekend in August in Vantaa in the Korso district .

The Ruisrock in Turku is the Ankkarock's partner festival, which is why the two events have a similar line-up.

history

The first Ankkarock was founded in 1986 by a group of volunteers as a free rock concert. The park Ankkalammet ( Eng . Duck ponds ) in Korso was chosen as the venue , which also gave the festival its name. Havana Black played as headliner in front of over 800 visitors, the following year 2,000 people attended.

In 1991 the festival with bands like Freud Marx Engels & Jung took place in front of around 10,000 visitors. This year the Ankkarock was not only a two-day event , but also received a second stage ( Rocklava and Päälava ). In the course of the next few years the festival grew more and more, both the dealer mile and the tasting area took up an ever larger area and in 1996 the festival attracted a total of 33,000 music fans. This made it one of the biggest festivals in Finland.

In 1998 the site finally reached its limit with 55,000 visitors. For reasons of public safety, it was decided to downsize the festival. Therefore, the Ankkarock was paid for in 1999, an entrance fee of 60 mk (~ 10 € ) per day was required. With a total of 30,000 spectators, the festival, which featured Nightwish , Ultra Bra and Apulanta as headliners , was still sold out.

Even in the following years, the number of visitors remained constant at around 30,000, despite the rising entrance fee. In 2008, according to the organizer, there were 30,500, of which 17,000 on Saturday and 13,500 on Sunday. In addition, three stages have been in operation since 2003 ( Korsolava , Rocklava and Puistolava ).

Duck 2009: Maija Vilkkumaa

The festival logo is a cartoon duck in the style of the Ducks , which is usually a member of a headline is inspired band. In 2010, Don Huonot acted as a duck.
