Duck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ducks ( Engl. For ducks ) are a fictional family in the fictional town Entenhausen lives and from Disney was developed -Trickfilmstudios and later by cartoonists from Disney. In the early phase of the comics, Al Taliaferro , later Carl Barks , was particularly influential. In addition to numerous comics in various series (e.g. the Lustige Taschenbuch published in Germany ) and short films, there are also separate television series, DuckTales - Neues aus DuckTales and DuckTales (2017) , which are limited to a selection of characters and in which also figures appear that are otherwise not used (e.g. Frieda). The most famous family members, and also the ones with the most comic book appearances, are Donald Duck and Dagobert Duck , as well as Tick, Trick and Track Duck.

relationship

The most common genealogy of the Ducks is largely based on the stories of Carl Barks and Don Rosa . Both Barks and Rosa, who is based on Barks' stories, have portrayed their own somewhat different family relationships. Various others were also published (e.g. by Brute Gans, William van Horn and other draftsmen). However, they agree on some fundamentals: The family comes from Scotland, at least as far as the line around Dagobert Duck is concerned. Rosa also introduced a relationship to Emil Erpel, the founder of Duckburg. After him and Barks, the descendants of Dagobert Duck also go back to the Scottish clan McDuck, who had their seat on the Duckenburgh in the Scottish highlands. The data on the individual characters differ in the translation from the information in the English-language comics and in some cases they differ considerably between the individual cartoonists. Figures are added and dates of life, places and events are changed as required. The following information is therefore not binding for all subscribers.

Ancestors and early relatives

The oldest representatives of the McDucks cannot be brought into a secure genealogical order, so they appear chronologically. The additional information comes from the comics by Barks and Rosa.

  • Sir Daunenstert Duck ( Sir Eider McDuck ) († 946, according to other sources, however † 1174) fell in the fight against the Anglo-Saxons. His army left him in the lurch because he paid all together only 30 copper pieces per hour (in German Barks stories, Dagobert usually pays Donald at 30 cruisers an hour).
  • Sir Donnerbold Duck (English Sir Quackly McDuck ), follower of King Macbeth (* around 1010, † (after) August 15, 1057, according to other information, however, † 1314) He walled himself in when he wanted to hide his treasure.
  • Sir Demelak Duck ( Sir Stuft McDuck ). In the middle of the 12th century he is the leader of the Ducks clan and leads them to fame, honor and, above all, fortune.
  • Sir Dümpelfried Duck (English Sir Roast McDuck ) (* 1159, † 1205, according to other information, however, † 1236), died on the flapping river during the Victory Supper of Brakenburgh: He choked on the 13th leg of mutton.
  • Sir Dusseltrutz Duck ( Sir Swamphole McDuck ), built the new escape tunnel under the Duckenburgh. Was buried in his armor in the Duckenburg, as the passage ends in his false grave.
  • Sir Dagobert Duck (English Malcolm McDuck ) (* around 1530; † December 9, 1564, according to other information 1579), officer in the English Navy.
  • Duckat Mc Duck or Ducklas Mac Duck (English Pap McPaper or Danblane McDuck ) (* around 1600, † probably 1657), captain of the Flying Scotsman.
  • Captain David Fürchtegott Duck (English Hugh "Seafoam" McDuck ) (* 1710, † 1776), captain of the "Golden Goose" and owner of valuable golden teeth.

The life data of Sirs Dusseltrutz, Dümpelfried, Donnerbold and Daunenstert Duck can be read, among other things, in the story The Old Castle's Secret by Carl Barks ( Das Gespenst von Duckenburgh, first published in Germany in 1965).

Differences between German and American editions

The fact that the first translator of the Barks stories, Erika Fuchs, used the surname Duck for almost all duck figures, and many translators and European authors still do this , often causes confusion . In contrast to this, several different surnames are used in the American (especially by Don Rosa according to an overview of family relationships available to him - compiled by Barks for his private use), so McDuck for Dagobert as the last male representative of the clan, Coot for "Grandma “Dorette and Degenhart (Donald's father), who belong to another family there, and the simple Duck for those who are not“ inherited ”, ie not descendants of the McDuck clan directly from a male McDuck. In European stories, however, Dagobert and "Grandma" are often portrayed as siblings according to their names, which results in extremely complicated family relationships with many additional multiple relationships.

error

In the Duck comics there were always content and chronological inconsistencies. For example, Uncle Dagobert - His Life, His Billions claims that Dagobert did not know his Uncle Diethelm until he was 13, as he emigrated long before Dagobert was born. Elsewhere, however, one can see a family photo in a panel showing Diethelm, Jakob and Dietbert together with Dankrade and the children Dagobert, Mathilda and Dortel.
