Timo Kotipelto (born March 15, 1969 in Lappajärvi , Finland ) is the singer of the Finnish power metal band Stratovarius .

Life

Kotipelto took singing lessons at the Helsinki Music Academy for five years. During this time he sang for the amateur cover band Filthy Asses . In the summer of 1994 he attended a casting by the band Stratovarius, who were looking for a singer at that time, and was accepted into the band. The first album he recorded with the band was Fourth Dimension in 1995. It is obvious that Stratovarius only achieved international fame with Kotipelto's voice.

At the end of 2003, Timo Tolkki announced that Kotipelto had been kicked out of the band and would be replaced on future albums by the Finnish singer Katriina Wiiala. After the chaotic year 2004, in which Stratovarius undertook an apparent “farewell tour”, he returned to the band in January 2005.

Kotipelto has also released three solo albums, among others with the support of members of the bands Symphony X , Children of Bodom , HIM , Sonata Arctica and Thunderstone . He also worked several times as a guest singer at Warmen .

With the single "Sleep Well", also known as the soundtrack of the film "Vares 2", which premiered in January, Kotipelto landed at # 5 in the Finnish charts, with the album "Serenity", which was also released on April 20th in Europe, Kotipelto made it to # 8 on the Finnish charts.

In 2009 he took part with the Lappajärvi Choir on the TV show Kuorosota , in which choirs from different Finnish cities compete against each other under the direction of celebrities. Kotipelto's choir won the final on March 1, 2009 against the Espoo choir .
