Wenche is a feminine Norwegian given name. The name day for Wenche is August 17th. Wenche originated from the German part of the name Win- or Wen-, which is derived from Wini and means as much as friend. The name found its spread in Norway since the 1500s . From 1940 to the 1970s, the name Wenche was most commonly given to female newborns in Norway, with more than 1% of newly born girls receiving the name Wenche. In 2009, 14,586 Norwegian women had the first name.

The name is also used in Denmark and Sweden .

Other forms and spellings are Venke, Wenke, Venche, Wencke, Vence and Vencke.
