Gin D. Wong

Gin Dan Wong (born September 17, 1922 in Guangzhou , Republic of China , † September 1, 2017 ) was an American architect .

Life

Wong graduated in Los Angeles , California , the John H. Francis Technical High School from. In 1942 he attended courses at Los Angeles City College and the following year at Millikin University in Decatur , Illinois . He then served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a navigator with the 20th Air Force stationed on the Mariana Islands and took part in some of the air raids on Japan in 1945 .

After the war ended, Wong attended the University of Southern California (USCA). There he was accepted into the Scarab secret society . He graduated from USCA's School of Architecture in 1950 after receiving the first Producers Council Design Award there. He started working for the architectural firm Pereira & Luckman Associates , where he was promoted to director of the design department. During this time he was responsible for the design of Los Angeles International Airport , which was completed in 1957, for many years . Other projects were CBS Television City in 1953 and the Union Oil Center in 1957 , both of which were built in Los Angeles. In 1958 he was co-founder and partner of the architecture firm William L. Pereira & Associates , whose works include the Transamerica Pyramid , completed in 1972 in San Francisco .

Since 1974, Wong and his architectural association GWA Planning and Architects have planned dozens of buildings and supervised their execution. Wong has served on the University of Southern California's board of directors since 1983 .
