Wenditzufer
The Wenditzufer is a street in Lübeck's old town .
location
The 710 meter long Wenditzufer is located on the western edge of the old town island. It is a promenade along the Trave , which begins at the Holsten Bridge and leads northwards directly to the quay wall until it ends at the swing bridge opposite the Engelsgrube . The Wenditzufer, designated as a pure footpath, runs along its entire length between Untertrave and the river.
history
The Wenditzufer is the youngest street in Lübeck's old town: The decision to name the promenade at Holstenhafen, which had previously been part of the Untertrave, was not made until September 17, 2001. In November, the newly erected street signs were unveiled. It was named after Captain Joachim Hinrich Georg Wenditz (* 1799; † 1888), member of the citizenship and head of the Schiffergesellschaft .
There are no buildings on the Wenditzufer; Strictly speaking, however, the museum harbor is not located on the Untertrave, which nowhere reaches the quays, but on the Wenditzufer.
