The Wentworth Club is a, established in 1926, private golf club with recreational resort in Virginia Water , Surrey on the southwestern outskirts of London , near Windsor Castle .
The Wentworth Club owes its fame to its connection to professional golf. It houses three 18-hole courses, including the famous West Course (West Course) , and a 9-hole course. The green fee for the west course is currently (summer 2006) £ 285 and is one of the highest in Europe. In 2004 the club was acquired by fashion industrialist Richard Caring for £ 130m.
The headquarters of the PGA European Tour is located here and the BMW PGA Championship and, until 2007, the HSBC World Matchplay Championship are held here every year . In 1953 the place hosted the Ryder Cup .
Across from the Wentworth Club is the Wentworth Estate - one of the most expensive properties in the London suburbs and home to many top golfers and other celebrities. One of them is Ernie Els , who is also the club's world-wide touring professional . As a recognized golf course designer, Els redesigned the west course in winter 2005/06, extended it by around 280 meters and added 30 bunkers .
