Werdersche brown , also called Witzenhauser giant , Oberrieder doctor cherry or dark election houses , is a dark variety of sweet cherries belonging to the heart cherries .

origin

The exact origin of the 'Werdersche Braune' variety is unknown, it could possibly be a chance seedling from the Werder cherry-growing region , after which it is named and where it occurs frequently. It was first mentioned in the middle of the 19th century in the Querfurt district .

The tree grows strongly, with steep, upright leading branches, often with twin stems. The treetop is spherical to highly pyramidal.

Phenology

'Werdersche Braune' is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. The flowering time is medium early and the beginning of flowering occurs together with the somewhat reddish leaf shoot.

The green fruit stalk is medium-long with a length of about 4 cm and has a medium-sized stem attachment. The stone fruit is large, the shape is very variable, mostly flattened and bulged at the top and bottom. The skin is dark brown purple in full maturity. The flesh that is firm for a heart cherry is dark red, aromatic and sweet. The fruit has a medium burst resistance . The stone is medium-sized, rounded to oval, slightly pointed on the stamp side . The fruit ripens uniformly in the 3rd to 4th cherry week . The yield is high and regular.
