A material parameter is a physical parameter with which one tries to characterize a material . Material parameters that have been determined in series of measurements are preferably used to make statements, in particular about the physical or physicochemical properties of materials.

Examples of these parameters are:

• the hardness of a material,
• its density at room temperature,
• its electrical conductivity ,
• its thermal conductivity ,
• its melting point ,
• the yield point

etc.
