Werner Augsburger

Werner Augsburger (born December 11, 1958 in Visp , Canton of Valais ) is a former Swiss volleyball player and today's sports official.

biography

Werner Augsburger grew up in a family of millers in Naters . As a talented athlete, he came to volleyball via football and high jump at the age of 15. After completing his sports teacher training at the University of Bern , he received an offer from Leysin VBC (National League A). With Leysin, he won the championship title six times in a row (1985-1990). Werner Augsburger was also active in the national volleyball team . In 1991 he ended his sports career and started at Rossignol Switzerland as sales manager.

Werner Augsburger worked for Swiss Olympic between 1999 and March 2009 . He was Chef de Mission at the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 , Turin 2006 and the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 . Today he lives with his family in Schmitten FR . Like him, his son Christophe also played volleyball successfully. Between August 2010 and March 2011 he was a professional volleyball player and played at the Thurgau volleyball club Volley Amriswil in the top division of Switzerland. He was also a member of the Swiss national volleyball team. After operations on both hip joints, Christophe Augsburger had to end his career.

Since January 1, 2010, Augsburg has been director of the Swiss National Ice Hockey League.

On April 13, 2011 he was appointed sports director of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi from September 1, 2011. On January 5, 2012, he resigned as sports director of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
