Werner Dahm

Werner K. Dahm (born February 16, 1917 in Lindenthal near Cologne ; † January 17, 2008 in Huntsville , Alabama , USA ) was a German rocket pioneer.

Dahm was born near Cologne as the son of Anton Dahm and Maria Morkramer. Shortly after his birth, his parents moved to Bonn. There he graduated from the Beethoven School and studied from 1936 at the Technical University of Aachen, and afterwards, after it was closed in Munich, aerodynamics and aircraft construction. Even his father was an engineer.

In 1941 he joined Wernher von Braun's rocket team in Peenemünde . As the youngest member of this group, he worked on the development of the Hermes II. Together with von Braun, he also carried out this work after moving to the USA in 1950. He also followed von Braun when he switched to NASA . It was not until 2006 that he stopped active after he was involved in a car accident. He was the last active German rocket specialist at NASA from his time.

Dahm was married twice. His first wife, whom he married in 1955, died in 1976. He remarried in 1981 and his second wife died in 2000. Werner Dahm had four sons.
