St. Nicholas and Maria (Dachau)
St. Nikolaus and Maria is a parish church in the Dachau deanery . The late Gothic building is in the Mitterndorf district of Dachau .
history
A separate church was mentioned for Mitterndorf in a document in Freising as early as 930. This existed at that time as a branch church to the parish in Steinkirchen. The parish of Steinkirchen was divided around 1300, one part was assigned to Dachau St. Jakob, the other to the parish in Mitterndorf, which thus became a parish church from a branch church. In a directory of the Bishop of Freising , Konrad III. Sendlinger , from the year 1315, the so-called Konradinischen Matrikel , branch churches in Gündling and Steinkirchen were already listed as belonging to the parish church Mitterndorf. Our dear lady as the patroness of the church was mentioned for the first time in 1436, in 1524 St. Nicholas was also mentioned.
The building that now exists was erected from the end of the 15th century to the beginning of the 16th century under the direction of the builder Hanns Widerl . The tower and choir were completed in 1496, the four- bay nave of the nave only around 1515 A saddle roof- covered tower on the north side is the oldest part of the complex and may also come from a previous building of the current church. Two bells that have since been given to the Bavarian National Museum and the Church in Webling were cast by Ulrich von Rosen in 1481 and 1486, respectively. The current bells were cast in Bochum in 1924.
The high altar of the church was created by Constantin Pader around 1630 . During the Thirty Years War there was no major damage beyond broken panes. Around 1730 the roof of the church was re-covered and the belfry replaced. In 1810, the building was struck by lightning and damaged the pulpit, the choir stalls and the altars, the main altar dedicated to St. Nicholas and the two side altars dedicated to St. Anna and St. Peter and Paul.
Between 1977 and 1987 the church was restored inside and out, and in 1999 measures had to be taken to ensure static safety.
