Werner Heinrichs

Werner Heinrichs (born February 16, 1947 in Krefeld ) is a retired German cultural scientist and former rector of the State University for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart .

Life

After training and working in local government, Werner Heinrichs studied philosophy , German and Scandinavian studies at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Uppsala / Sweden from 1972 to 1977 . 1977 state examination in German and philosophy; 1980 Promotion to Dr. phil. in Comparative German Philology and Scandinavian Studies. 1978 to 1990 various functions in the field of communal cultural work, most recently as head of the cultural office. From 1990 to 2007 professor of cultural studies and cultural management as well as founder and head of the institute for cultural management at the Ludwigsburg University of Education (on leave since 2002). From 2002 to 2012 rector of the State University for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart and from 2008 to 2011 chairman of the rectors' conference of the German music academies in the HRK. 2014 at the suggestion of Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann Merit Cross on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Heinrichs has been involved in the management of nonprofit organizations since the mid-1980s. After his first publication on municipal cultural work in 1988, he was appointed to the newly created chair for cultural studies and cultural management at the Ludwigsburg University of Education in 1990. There he developed the basics and self-image of the new subject of cultural management and published an introduction to cultural management in 1993, which had a decisive influence on the further development of the subject. With his book "Kultur und Kulturpolitik" in 1997, he highlighted the influence of legal, economic and political framework conditions on public cultural funding. Since moving to the Stuttgart University of Music and Drama, he has been increasingly concerned with questions of cultural studies, especially with the conditions of cultural life and artistic activity in the modern age.
