Werner Nagel (politician)

Werner Nagel (born February 18, 1934 in Mannheim ; † July 12, 1993 ibid) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from primary school in 1948, Nagel completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic in Mannheim. From 1952 he worked as a mechanical engineer at the Mannheim engine works. Member of IG Metall since 1951, he was chairman of the works council in 1962 and chairman of the general works council in 1972. In addition, he has been involved in workers' welfare since 1954 and was a member of the Mannheim district executive from 1982. Nagel was married and had one child.

politics

In 1952, Nagel became a member of the SPD and three years later chairman of the Mannheim-Sandhofen local association . From 1968 to 1972 he was deputy chairman of the SPD district association in Mannheim. In 1959 he had been elected to the Mannheim municipal council, of which he was a member until 1972, the last two years of which as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1972 to 1990, Nagel was a member of the German Bundestag , where he represented the direct mandate of the Mannheim I constituency.

The city of Mannheim named a street after Werner Nagel.
