Werner Ott

Werner Ott (born February 26, 1940 in Buchen im Odenwald ) is a German environmental officer. From 1982 to 2000 he was President of the Hessian State Agency for the Environment and the Hessian State Office for Environment and Geology .

Live and act

The son of the graduate geodesist and doctorate farmer Dr. agr. Hans Ott passed the Abitur in 1960 at the Helmholtz-Gymnasium Heidelberg . He then completed an agricultural apprenticeship from 1960 to 1961, which he completed with the assistant test. He then studied agriculture at the University of Gießen from 1961 to 1967 and received his doctorate under Friedrich Grossmann with a dissertation on the purification and characterization of the pea nation mosaic virus.

From 1967 to 1969 Ott completed his traineeship training for higher teaching and administrative service in the agricultural administration (qualification: assessor of agriculture) at the teaching and research institute Bad Kreuznach.

From 1969 to 1971 he worked as a research assistant in the plant protection product industry at Cela, Ingelheim. From 1971 to 1972 he was employed as a teacher or teacher at the vocational school / technical college in Bad Kreuznach and at the district vocational school in Alsfeld. During his activity from 1972 to 1978 as a technical college teacher or professor at the Giessen University of Applied Sciences for general and applied biology (especially ecology), he was appointed and elected dean of the technical health system and chairman of the convention board. He then moved from 1978 to 1982 as director of the Hessian teaching and research institute for grassland management and field forage production with inter-company training in animal and plant production. In October 1982 he became President of the Hessian State Agency for the Environment.

In 1983 the Giessen-Friedberg University of Applied Sciences appointed him honorary professor . In the winter semester 1993/1994 he was seconded as a lecturer at the Biological-Pharmaceutical Faculty of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . In 1999 the Hessian State Parliament decided to merge the two departments “Hessian State Agency for Environment” and “Hessian State Office for Geology” to form the “State Office for Environment and Geology”. On January 3, 2000, Ott was appointed President of the new office. On December 31 of the same year he was retired at his own request. He is married for the second time and has three daughters from his first marriage.
