Werner Richter (writer)

Werner Richter (born July 1, 1888 in Muskau / Oberlausitz , † August 14, 1969 in Lugano , Switzerland ) was a German journalist and writer who mainly wrote non-fiction books. His most important work "Ludwig II." From 1939 has seen a good 14 editions to date.

Life

Richter studied history at the universities of Berlin, Munich, Zurich and Kiel. In 1913 he obtained his doctorate . He also worked as a journalist for a long time, first in the Foreign Office , from 1920 to 1925 as a correspondent for various German and foreign newspapers, then from 1926 as a correspondent for the Berliner Tageblatt in Munich until 1933.

After emigrating in 1936, he first went to Italy, then to Switzerland in 1938, and finally to the USA in 1941. He had been a US citizen since 1947. From 1950 he also worked for the FAZ . From 1956 until his death in 1969 he finally lived in Lugano . Since 1964 he was a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry .
