The Wernerwerk high-rise (also Siemens-Wernerwerk-Hochhaus , Wernerwerk-Hochbau , Wernerwerk X , building group 10 ) is an office high-rise of Siemens-Schuckertwerke GmbH in the Berlin district of Siemensstadt , Siemensdamm  50-54. It was built between 1928 and 1930 according to plans by the architect Hans Hertlein and the civil engineer Gerhard Mensch . The same architect also provided the designs for the two-wing extension, which was completed in 1937. The building complex is a listed building .

history

The building was erected in the mid-1920s using a steel frame construction . It served the administration of the actual Wernerwerk and included a works library and a casino . The Siemensbahn opened in the immediate vicinity in 1929 .

At the end of the Second World War , the office complex suffered numerous damage, which was repaired by 1972.

Due to its exposed location, the Wernerwerk high-rise is considered the eastern gateway to Siemensstadt in urban planning terms. All windows of the building were illuminated at night when it was built; In allusion to the film Metropolis, the people of Siemensstadt spoke as "Electropolis".

architecture

Architecturally, the Wernerwerk high-rise with its wing buildings is a typical example of factory buildings up to the middle of the 20th century. It is kept in the style of New Objectivity . The clinker brick facade of the high-rise building, which is directly connected to the wing buildings, is structured by rows of windows arranged like stairs with molded stone frames. The individual wings of the building have up to twelve floors. The uppermost part of the central staircase tower is divided all around by four rows of vertical window slots.

To the north, the facade of the central staircase tower on Siemensdamm carries a simple tower clock that is set asymmetrically.
