The Wertachbrucker Tor is located on the edge of Augsburg's old town and used to be part of the medieval city wall as a passage . Today it is primarily used by the carpenters' guild as a representative building and as an event location.

Emergence

The Wertachbrucker Tor dates from around 1370 and served first as a customs gate, then as a defense system for the city of Augsburg. The gate tower was raised and rebuilt in 1605 by the Augsburg builder Elias Holl . During the Thirty Years War , several attacks by the Swedes and French were repulsed here. In 1805 Napoleon entered the city through this gate. In 1867, the city wall to the southwest of the gate was torn down to let traffic by. In 1998 the building was restored and renovated by the Augsburg carpenter's guild.

today

After a lot of commitment by the carpenters' guild - tower tours, events - the gate serves as a guild tower for the carpenters and as an event location for around 30 people. The Wertachbruck gate tower in Augsburg is probably the only project that has been supervised and renovated almost exclusively by companies belonging to the craftsmen's association for quality in construction .
