The Wertpapierwelt is a collection of historical securities .

history

In 1980 Jakob Schmitz (Düsseldorf) laid the foundation for the collection. His goal was u. a. to own one nonvaleurs security from every country in the world, if possible . In 2001, FSG Swiss Financial Services Group AG (today's SIX Group AG ) acquired the Schmitz Collection in order to make it accessible to the public. The Foundation for the Collection of Historical Securities was established for this purpose. The collection has existed as a museum since 2003 under the name Wertpapierwelt . First in Olten ( Switzerland ) and from 2017 as an integral part of the Swiss Finance Museum in Zurich (Switzerland).

The collection focuses on:

  1. Certificates from the first public companies
  2. Securities of particular economic and cultural historical importance
  3. Stocks and bonds with original signatures
  4. Art on stocks
  5. Securities of internationally known and emblematic companies
  6. Swiss securities

The collection of the Wertpapierwelt includes around 10,000 historical securities from around 150 countries. The exhibits include numerous style documents of art and cultural historical importance. Their value is estimated at 5 to 6 million CHF. The most valuable exhibit is the share in Alfred Nobel's first weapons factory (estimated value: approx. 180,000 CHF) with Alfred Nobel's original signature. One of the special features is a bond from the VOC from 1623. The VOC, which was founded in 1602 to spread risk in the spice trade, is the first stock corporation in history.

The permanent exhibits and the temporary exhibitions in the Swiss Finance Museum enable historical securities and economic history to be viewed from different perspectives.
