history

After the Napoleonic era , the Wessendorf peasantry initially belonged to the mayor's office of Stadtlohn in the Ahaus district founded in 1816. With the introduction of the Westphalian rural community order in 1843, the mayor's office Stadtlohn became the Stadtlohn office , to which the five communities Almsick , Estern-Büren , Hengeler-Wendfeld , Hundewick and Wessendorf belonged. After the development of Stadtlohn expanded further and further to the area of Wessendorf, Wessendorf ceded an area of 1.3 km² with 1032 inhabitants in 1910 and an area of 4.4 km² with 423 inhabitants to Stadtlohn in 1930.

On August 1, 1964, Wessendorf merged with Almsick, Estern-Büren, Hengeler-Wendfeld and Hundewick to form the parish of parish Stadtlohn , which in turn was incorporated into the town of Stadtlohn in 1969.
