West Hampstead (London Underground)

West Hampstead is an above-ground London Underground station in the London Borough of Camden . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 2 on West End Lane. The station served by the Jubilee Line was used by 10.59 million passengers in 2014. West Hampstead train station is in the immediate vicinity and is served by Thameslink and London Overground .

The station was opened on June 30, 1879 by the Metropolitan Railway (predecessor of the Metropolitan Line ). From November 20, 1939, trains of the Bakerloo Line , which took over the traffic on the Stanmore branch line , also stopped here . The parallel traffic only lasted a few months; to enable acceleration and unbundling, trains on the Metropolitan Line have passed this station without stopping since December 7, 1940. On May 1, 1979, the newly opened Jubilee Line took over the traffic of the Bakerloo Line.
