Augustine Island is an island off the south coast of Alaska in Cook Inlet , about 280 kilometers southwest of Anchorage . The island is located in a continuation of the Alaska Peninsula to the northeast. It was formed by the 1,260 meter high, active stratovolcano Mount St. Augustine .
The neighboring island of West Island ( 59 ° 23 ′ N , 153 ° 33 ′ W ) is about 200 meters off the west coast of Augustine .
Augustine Island is nearly circular and takes up about 80 km² of land area; West Iceland is 4.6 km². Both islands are uninhabited.
