Westerloog (north dike)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Westerloog is the name of two residential spaces in the northern district of Norddeich , both of which were built on new land and are also known as Ostlooger Grashaus and Westerlooger Grashaus . The name is a combination of the East Frisian-Low German term Loog (= village, place) with the cardinal point west. Grass house refers to a single courtyard built into the grassland, which "used to be mostly owned by the church or a monastery". They are located north of the Ostermarscher Landstrasse and were once the outworks of the Marienthal monastery . In the course of the Reformation they came into the possession of the Counts of East Friesland . During the Geldrian feud , Balthasar von Esens destroyed the two farms in 1531. They were later rebuilt. In 1848 23 people lived on the two farms.
