Western Wireless was a US company in the telecommunications industry.

The company was mainly active in the western United States. It owned and operated cellular systems in 19 states. According to its own information, the company looked after 1,231,200 customers in August 2005.

Western Wireless was listed on the NASDAQ technology exchange.

In mid-2005, Western Wireless was taken over by the US telecom company Alltel . Alltel intended to sell all of Western Wireless’s international subsidiaries. The Austrian subsidiary tele.ring was then sold to T-Mobile in spring 2006 for EUR 1.3 billion .
