In mid-2005, Western Wireless was taken over by the US telecom company Alltel . Alltel intended to sell all of Western Wireless’s international subsidiaries. The Austrian subsidiary tele.ring was then sold to T-Mobile in spring 2006 for EUR 1.3 billion .
