from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Westersander is a village in Ihlowerhörn , a district of the municipality of Ihlow in the East Frisian district of Aurich . It appears for the first time in 1431 as to Westerzondum in the documents. Later names are Weestersande in 1585 , Westersander in 1585 and Westersonder in 1645. The village name is a combination of the west direction with the affricative plural of sand .

history

Westersander emerged as a heaped village on the northwestern half of a Geest ridge, which has probably remained bog-free. This extends between the two watercourses of Krummen- and Fehntjer Tief . At the time of its founding, the village was surrounded by a large field of heather where cattle could graze. At first it was probably a pure farming village. In 1719 there were 77 inhabitants in the village. In 1853 the common land was divided into private ownership. The old farming village is still recognizable in the center of Westersander. There is a new development area on the western edge.
