Whewell is an impact crater on the front of the moon west of Mare Tranquillitatis , between Agrippa craters in the west and Cayley in the east. The crater is bowl-shaped with a small flat bottom part and hardly eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British philosopher William Whewell .
