Whipp Island is an uninhabited island in the northern part of the King Sound , an Australian coastal body of water in the Indian Ocean . It belongs to the Kimberley region in the Australian state of Western Australia .
The island is 440 meters long and 140 meters wide. The total area of the island is 3.3 hectares. It is about 5.8 kilometers from mainland Australia.
The island is the third-easternmost island in a five-kilometer chain of islands. The name of the western neighbor island is Pope Island , the eastern neighbor island is called Dove Island .
