Whitsunday Island is the largest of the Whitsunday Islands , which is located off Queensland ( Australia ) in the Pacific . The island is uninhabited and offers many tourist attractions for day visitors and overnight yachtsmen, including the beautiful sandy beaches with clear water of Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet , the safe, beautiful anchorages of Cid Harbor , and the well-protected waterways of Gulnare Inlet . The island can be reached from the mainland from the tourist strongholds Airlie Beach and Shute Harbor .
