economy

Airlie Beach's economy is largely based on tourism. There are many accommodation options in the city to suit all budgets. But the dominant group are backpackers. There are countless travel agencies along the main road that offer one-day or multi-day sailing trips to the islands. Many people also take the opportunity to learn to dive here.

However, entering the sea in Airlie Beach is associated with special dangers.
