The airport Whitsunday Coast Airport is a Australian airport at Airlie Beach .
history
Plans to build an airfield in Proserpine began in 1936, but this was postponed due to insufficient funding. Construction work finally began in 1946. The first aircraft landed on November 3, 1951.
There are currently plans to build a new international airport at Laguna Quais. However, this is met with strong resistance from the population.
