Wiebelhausen (Siegerland)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wiebelhausen was a settlement between Wilden , Wilnsdorf and Gilsbach in the southern Siegerland in the 14th and 15th centuries. First mentioned in 1355, it went under before 1417. The place was between today's Landeskroner Weiher , Gilsbach and Würgendorf , probably in the valley of the Wiebelhäuser Bach .

The final settlement of the place began between 800 and 950 in the "Franconian expansion period". In 1355 the Wiebelhausen settlement was first mentioned under the name "Wybelhusen". Countess Adelheid von Nassau assigned the knight Johann from Burbach 10 marks castle loan money from her estates in Wiebelhausen, Schmidthain, Ratzenscheid , the nearby farms of Windhain, Hillingsdorf and Budendorf. The settlement was mentioned as such for the last time in 1417: "The Hoff tzu Wybelhusen yst wuste, 2 Malter oats and 1 Malterkorn". The note “Wüstung” (“wuste”) suggests a settlement that has already been abandoned or is about to be abandoned. The taxes mentioned existed because the land was still being built on from the new residence. In the same document, a "Henne van Wibelhusen" with residence "Wylnstorff" is mentioned. Wiebelhausen no longer appears in a register from 1461. On February 2, 1471, Meuth von Selbach transferred "the hoeff zu Webelhusen" and other farms to his brother-in-law. On an old map from 1600 only the field name "Wiebelhausen" appears, as it does on today's maps.

In 1801 the brothers Peter and Johann Schmit had the plan to repopulate Wiebelhausen. With the argument that the meadows and fields located there could be tilled and managed better than from Gilsbach or Würgendorf, the brothers submit an application to the princely state government. At least 20 people could find a living there. Since no answer can be found, these plans are presumably lost due to the turmoil in the Napoleonic era.

The nature in the former village area of Wiebelhausen, untouched for centuries.

Today only a few field names and stones remind of the place. In addition, the route of the federal motorway 45 crosses the former local area.
