The Wiener Sprachblätter are the magazine of the largest language association in Austria, the Association for Mother Language .
About history
The Wiener Sprachblätter, magazine for good German , appeared for the first time on June 12, 1951. Since 1959 they have been published quarterly with a circulation of between 1500 and 2000 copies. The editor is currently Christoph Fackelmann . From 1998 to 2009 Gottfried Fischer was editor-in-chief.
A magazine of the same name was published from 1931 to 1943 by the predecessor association, the "Vienna Branch" of the General German Language Association .
aims
The Wiener Sprachblätter deal with the topic of language criticism , language maintenance and linguistics . You want to sharpen language awareness. For example, they criticize the use of certain foreign words and replace Anglicisms with German words. For example, the Wiener Sprachblätter use the word “world network” instead of the widespread term “ Internet ”.
In addition, the Wiener Sprachblätter want to clarify deficiencies in the spelling reform of 1996 , which the intergovernmental council for German spelling was set up in 2004 to remedy . They also use the dialect and the Fraktur script , the suppression of which was initiated in 1941 with the “Hitler-Bormann Decree”. Therefore, the language leaves use the spelling in the version prior to the 1996 reform and appear partly in broken Scripture , partly in Antiqua -Schreibung.

The authors of the Wiener Sprachblätter included and still count linguists such as Theodor Ickler and Gottfried Fischer, politicians such as Thomas Klestil and Wilhelm Brauneder , writers, poets and teachers.
