Wienerschnitzel is an American fast food chain specializing in hot dogs . In this niche it is the market leader in the USA. The company started with a single hot dog stand in Los Angeles in 1961 and now has around 300 restaurants in more than ten states. Wiener Schnitzel is not sold in the chain's restaurants , but Wiener sausages are also simply referred to as “Wiener” in the USA. The original name was Der Wienerschnitzel , but it was changed to its current name in 1977.
The company is the main sponsor of the Wiener Nationals , the national dachshund racing competitions in the USA. As such, the chain is thematized in the film comedies Wiener Dog Nationals from 2013 and Wiener Dog Internationals from 2014.
