Location of Wieslauterhof in Rhineland-Palatinate

The hamlet of Wieslauterhof is located roughly in the middle between Hinterweidenthal and Merzalben in the upper Wieslautergrund, a side valley of the Ziegler valley near the alleged Wieslauter origin.

history

In 1718, Lorenz Siegenthaler asked the Graefenstein magistrate Faber to be allowed to build an Erblehenshof in the upper Wieslautergrund, above the Kumpfwoog and towards the castle forest . After some problems in the supplicant's family situation have been resolved, i. H. the entire family had converted to the Catholic faith, nothing stood in the way of the establishment of the Wieslauterhof or the Waschlauterhof.

All sources and files that document the period up to 1744 were destroyed in the Second World War. The following 256 years are well documented and tell of the history of the Palatinate Forest and its inhabitants.

Up until the end of the 19th century, farming families managed the Zieglertal. The many ponds still in the valley today were important for the irrigation of the meadows. Over time, the Wieslauterhof became increasingly fragmented. The estate continued to play an important role in the history of the region: "Of the total of 672 inhabitants in the Merzalben community, 37 lived on the Wieslauterhof in 1833. Of these, 18 were Catholic and 19 Protestant. Four boys and two girls attended the elementary school in Merzalben . The way to school was good and required a three-quarters of an hour's walk "(Municipal statistics of the Merzalben elementary school, 1833 Merzalben municipal archive). The last private owner was the Rebholz family, who sold the estate to the Bavarian state on October 22, 1900. In 1907 all the buildings except the best preserved one were demolished.

In 2010, the farm was completely renovated or restored with the support of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. The building should document the living and working conditions of past time and cultural epochs. In 2010, around 105,000 euros were spent by the monument protection authority on maintaining the courtyard. However, the property is located in the core zone of the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve, with the result that there is a so-called route requirement and the routes indicated to the Wieslauterhof may not be left. Entering the building to find out more about the “living and working conditions” is also not permitted - the outside areas of the renovated facility must be left in their natural state.

This called the taxpayers' association to the plan, which included the project in its 2011 Black Book as a prime example of tax waste.

Since the renovation, a possible use of the Wieslauterhof has been discussed on a political level, a solution is not yet in sight. In addition to the poor accessibility, the use is made more difficult by the fact that the courtyard has neither electricity nor water connections even after the renovation.
