Wikibooks [ˌvɪkibʊks] is a Wiki for creating educational , factual and reference books under the Creative Commons Attribution / Share-Alike License 3.0 and GNU Free Documentation License .

On July 10, 2003, Wikibooks was launched as one of the Wikimedia projects. The project now exists in 120 language versions (as of November 2019). All language versions of Wikibooks - like all other Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia - access images and media files from Wikimedia Commons . The five largest language versions are in order: the English, German, French, Hungarian and Japanese versions.

German version

The German-language edition has been available since July 21, 2004. The slogan Open books for an open world, originally adopted from the English version, was changed in 2009 in the German Wikibooks project to The Free Library . The change was preceded by an open proposal process from January to March 2009 with a vote of interested users.

In the German version, 686 books with 23,991 book chapters were started, 82 books were marked as finished (as of September 2016).
