Viktor Ivanovich Danilow-Daniljan ( Russian Виктор Иванович Данилов-Данильян ; born May 9, 1938 in Moscow ) is an economist, systems analyst and environmental researcher as well as a well-known environmentalist and sustainability expert in Russia .

He studied at Moscow's Lomonosov University and received his doctorate there in 1973. From 1980 to 1991 he was director of the Laboratory for Resources and Environmental Protection, then head of the environmental department at the Academy of National Economy of the Council of Ministers of the USSR .

From 1991 to 1996 he was Environment Minister of the Russian Federation and from 1996 to 2003 Chairman of the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Environmental Protection. Since 2003 he has been director of the Institute for Water Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences and professor at the Russian University of Friendship of Peoples .
