Viktor Stanislavowitsch Korchagin ( Russian Виктор Станиславович Корчагин ; born August 7, 1967 in Novy Afon , Abkhaz ASSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian orienteer ski and mountain bike orienteer .

career

Korchagin became world champion four times in orienteering skiing: in 1998 on the long distance and three times between 1998 and 2002 with the Russian relay. He won his first medal back in 1992 when the CIS relay reached second place. In 1994 the Russian team won bronze with Korchagin. His big breakthrough followed in 1998: He finished fourth in the short distance, and gold in the long distance and relay. Also in 2000 and 2002 he was world champion with the Russian relay. In 2002 Korschagin won the silver medal in the sprint.

In 2002 Wiktor Korchagin also took part in the first Mountain Bike Orienteering World Championship in France. He finished in the top six in all three competitions. At the following World Cup in 2004 he was third on the short distance behind Adrian Jackson from Australia and Alain Berger from Switzerland, in 2005 second behind his compatriot Ruslan Grizan on the long distance. He won another medal in 2006 when the Russian relay won silver.
