The Wilbaser Markt is one of the largest and oldest fair events in the Lippe district . It takes place in the Siebenhöfen district , at the gates of the city of Blomberg , annually in autumn after the fields have been harvested and always starts on the second Friday in September.

history

The roots of the oldest fair in the Lippe district go back to more than 575 years. The first documentary mention comes from a monastery book from 1430, which contained an entry about income from the Kermisse . The forerunner of the Wilbaser market was a parish fair with an attached market.

Later attended the event gypsies from all over Germany to horses to sell and to weddings to celebrate. In this way, the Wilbaser market developed into one of the most important horse markets in northern Germany . After the Second World War , the Wilbaser Markt was assigned to the Blomberg district.

The course of the festival

On the first day (Friday) the fair is opened by the incumbent district administrator of the Lippe district by tapping a beer keg with a hammer in the traditional way . Since the market is easy to reach because of its convenient location (directly on the B 1 ), around 300 dealers and exhibitors travel to the fair every year to offer their goods and rides to visitors to the fair.

On the Wilbasen weekend, the fair also attracts numerous young people from the area. The Blomberg schools will be closed on the Monday after the Wilbasen weekend. The cattle market still takes place after 100 years of tradition. Even today, on Monday mornings, visitors have the opportunity to buy horses or poultry , for example . The last day of the Wilbaser Markt (Monday) ends with a big fireworks display at dusk .

particularities

The Wilbaser Markt is the only fair in Germany that is organized by a district administration .
