Wildlife population in Lesotho

The wildlife population in Lesotho is nowadays very limited due to the geographic size of the country and the relatively high population density and associated phenomena such as deforestation .

Duration

Lesotho is home to at least 63 species of mammals and 315-360 species of birds . There are also 40 reptile and 19 amphibian species . Numerous larger wild animal species, including the lion , cheetah , plains zebra , hartebeest , springbok , blue duiker , blessbok and large riedbok as well as eland have become extinct.
