The Wilhelm Brandenburg GmbH & Co. OHG belongs to the Rewe Group and is in the production of meat, sausage and ham products business. The company generates an annual turnover of 600 million euros and employs 1,700 people. The origin of the company lies in Rügenwalde on the Baltic Sea. Today the company operates at four locations in Frankfurt am Main , Dreieich , Netphen and Timmendorfer Strand . Based on a ruling by the Federal Court of Justice , the company is allowed to use the brand name Rügenwalder Teewurst . It is also a member of the Rügenwalder Fleischwarenfabrikanten association to protect the Rügenwalder Teewurst brand name .
history
In 1885, Wilhelm Brandenburg founded a company for sausage and ham specialties in Rügenwalde on the Pomeranian Baltic Sea. After the Second World War, the meat product manufacturers based in Rügenwalde, including Wilhelm Brandenburg, were driven out. The Wilhelm Brandenburg company was then rebuilt in 1949 on Timmendorfer Strand. Wilhelm Brandenburg has been part of the Rewe Group since 1986 . The company is the largest private label supplier to Rewe and Penny .
Origin of the processed animals
The company is a pure processing company, which processed 130,000 tons of meat annually nationwide as of 2017. The company is not involved in breeding, fattening, slaughtering or cutting the animals. The place and time of cutting and slaughtering cannot therefore be precisely traced. According to press reports, the beef is sourced from Germany. Poultry and pork can also come from other European countries such as Denmark or the Netherlands.
Animal welfare standards
The statutory minimum standards apply to animal husbandry (Animal Welfare Act, Animal Welfare Ordinance, Pig Keeping Ordinance). Apart from membership in QS GmbH , no further standards are mentioned here. In the field of feed and animal transport, the company says it adheres to the minimum legal standards. Slaughter and cutting are carried out according to current regulations. The stunning is done mechanically, electrically or through the use of CO 2 .
