Wilhelm Ehlers (politician)

Wilhelm Ehlers (born December 10, 1908 in Horneburg , † July 18, 1998 in Stade ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1959 to 1974 he was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament.

Life

Ehlers attended elementary school and high school in Stade . He completed his school education with secondary school leaving certificate. Between 1927 and 1938 he lived in the USA and was trained as a bricklayer here. In 1939 he began to attend the State Building School in Buxtehude until 1941. In 1941 he graduated as an engineer in the civil engineering branch. Between 1942 and 1945 he was a participant in the Second World War and was a participant in the war against the Soviet Union . He was seriously wounded twice in the war and was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1945. After his release from captivity, he began working as an architect at the housing cooperative for the district and city of Stade in 1950. He was a member of the board of directors of Stadtsparkasse Stade and the board of the savings bank and giro association in Hanover.

Political career

In 1954 Ehlers was elected chairman of the district association and a member of the district executive committee of the SPD. He was a member of the district assembly and councilor of the city of Stade. He was also elected as a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the fourth to seventh electoral periods from May 6, 1959 to June 20, 1974.
