Wilhelm Esser (politician)

Peter Wilhelm Esser (born April 25, 1907 in Hamburg ; † July 19, 1995 ) was a German SPD politician .

Life and work

After attending elementary school , Esser completed an apprenticeship as a ship carpenter and trained as a shipbuilding engineer, but then initially worked as a youth nurse in Hamburg. In 1933 he was dismissed from civil service for political reasons. After three years of unemployment, he worked as a shipyard worker from 1936. In 1944/45 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier . After the war he was a member of the supervisory board of the non-profit housing association Stormarn-Süd.

Political party

Esser initially worked in a communist youth organization, from which he switched to the Socialist Workers' Youth in 1926 . In 1927 he joined the SPD. From 1946 to 1961 he was a full-time district and sub-district secretary in Schleswig-Holstein.

MP

Esser belonged to the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament in its first legislative period (1947–1950). As a SPD direct candidate (49.8%), he represented the Segeberg-Süd constituency in parliament. From May 8, 1957 to February 7, 1949 he was chairman of the state parliament's police committee.
