Wilhelm Haack

Wilhelm Haack (born July 8, 1882 in Lügumkloster , † May 20, 1947 in Berlin ) was a German geologist .

Life

Haack studied geology at the University of Göttingen , where he received his doctorate in 1907 under Adolf von Koenen ( The Teutoburg Forest south of Osnabrück ). From 1912 to 1939 he was at the Prussian Geological State Institute , for which he a. a. mapped the area around Osnabrück . In 1927 he became a district geologist and professor and in 1935 a state geologist. In the 1930s he was mainly concerned with petroleum geology . After the Second World War, shortly after his retirement, he was summoned to East Berlin and arrested for unknown reasons. He died in Prenzlauer Berg prison.

He had been a member of the German Geological Society since 1908 . In 1912 he became a member of the Paleontological Society .

In 1952 a street in Osnabrück was named after him.
