Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto

Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto (born January 30, 1909 in Copenhagen ; † April 13, 1991 ) was a Danish horn player and professor at the Royal Swedish Music Academy .

Life

Lanzky-Otto began to play the piano at the age of five, and later took violin and organ lessons. He also received intensive training in music theory. From 1936 to 1945 he was principal horn in the Danish Radio Orchestra. He then worked in the same position in the Stockholm Philharmonic. In addition to his orchestral work, he was a professor at the Stockholm State Music Academy, where he founded the later so-called “ Lanzky School ”, which influenced many horn players in Scandinavia. Lanzky-Otto's pupils later became famous horn players themselves, such as Frøydis Ree Wekre , Sören Hermansson , James McDonald (horn player) and his son Ib Lanzky-Otto .
