Wilhelm Proeckl

Wilhelm (Willi) Proeckl (born May 8, 1940 in Bludenz ; † October 5, 2019 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and train driver of the Austrian Federal Railways . Proöckl was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1987 to 1994 .

education and profession

Proöckl completed his compulsory schooling in Bludenz and then began an apprenticeship as a locksmith at J. Bertsch. He completed his apprenticeship with the journeyman's examination. He worked as a fitter on assembly for the Bertsch company until August 1959, after which he worked as a fitter for the Lavantaler coal mining company from 1959 to 1962. In 1963, Prockl joined the Austrian Federal Railways and trained as a train driver. He was employed as an ÖBB train driver until 1994 and retired in 1994.

Politics and functions

Prockl joined the SPÖ in September 1961 and was a union member for a long time. In 1975 he became the local chairman of the parliamentary group of socialist trade unionists in Bludenz and from 1975 to around 1987 he also served as the district chairman of the parliamentary group of socialist trade unionists in Bludenz. In addition, from 1981 he worked as district chairman of the ÖGB Bludenz and from 1987 to 1994 he was the chairman of the state executive of the ÖGB Vorarlberg and the state chairman of the parliamentary group of socialist trade unionists in Vorarlberg. Between 1975 and 1987 he was involved in local politics as a member of the city council of Bludenz, where he was also a member of the hospital, social, agricultural, forest and transport committee and a substitute member of the housing committee. During this time he also worked as the mayor of Bludenz-Brunnenfeld. He represented Bludenz as a member of the electoral district.

Within the party, Pröckl was active as a member of the state party leadership of the SPÖ Vorarlberg until 1994, worked from 1987 to 1994 as a member of the state party executive and the state party presidium of the SPÖ Vorarlberg and was a member of the district executive of the SPÖ Bludenz until 1994. He was also deputy district chairman of the SPÖ Bludenz. From February 4, 1987 to May 9, 1994 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament, succeeding Peter Spannring in 1987 and resigning from office in 1994. He was area spokesman for employee and transport issues in the SPÖ state parliament club.

Pröckl left the SPÖ in 1994.

In addition to his political functions, he was a member of FC Rätia Bludenz and active in numerous music associations and bands. He was a member of the youth music Don Bosco, a member of the Wolfsberger Stadtmusik, the St. Stephan factory band, the Bludenz Railway Music and the Bludenz Music Club.

Private

Wilhelm Proeckl was born as the son of the train driver Ignaz Proeckl from Obdach in Styria. His mother Klara Prockl, née Niedegger, was born in Zurich . Wilhelm Proeckl married Sieglinde Steiner in 1960 and had a daughter in 1960 and 1963 respectively.
