William VII (Angoulême)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm VII Taillefer (French: Guillaume Taillefer ; † before 1186) was a Count of Angoulême from the House of Taillefer . He was the second son of Count Wilhelm VI. and Margaret, a daughter of Vice Count Raimund I of Turenne .

After the death of his older brother Vulgrin III. in 1181 William claimed the succession in Angoulême, disregarding the inheritance rights of his niece Mathilde . Richard the Lionheart , Duke of Aquitaine, who moved into Angoulême and forced Wilhelm and his younger brother Aymar to flee to Limoges , appointed himself as their guardian .

When William died is not known, but it was before 1186, when Aymar made a donation to the Abbey of Saint-Amant-de-Boixe in memory of his two brothers.
